Avast update problems december 201712/27/2022 ![]() ![]() ![]() It means it has the potential for being misused by others or that it was simply detected as suspicious or a threat due to the security program's heuristic analysis engine which provides the ability to detect possible new variants of malware. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malicious or a bad program. Compressed and packed files in particular are often flagged as suspicious by security software because they have difficulty reading what is inside them. When flagged by an anti-virus or security scanner, it's because the program includes features, behavior or files that appear suspicious or which can potentially be used for malicious purposes. Other legitimate files which may be obfuscated, encrypted or password protected in order to conceal itself so they do not allow access for scanning but often trigger alerts by anti-virus software. This occurs for a variety of reasons to include the tool's compiler, the files it uses, whether files are compressed or packed, what behavior (routines, scripts, etc) it performs, any registry strings it may contain and the type of security engine that was used during the scan. I'm not currently at home and only have my MacBook but give me a few minutes and I'll VPN into my Windows machine to confirm what's already been stated over on the Avast detections by anti-virus programs for specialized fix tools are not uncommon.Ĭertain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools, may at times be detected by some anti-virus and anti-malware scanners as suspicious, a Risk Tool, Hacking Tool, Potentially Unwanted Program, a possible threat or even Malware (virus/trojan) when that is not the case. Some more posts over on the official Avast forum about this: is a legit Google domain and it would certainly appear at first glance that Avast have erroneously flagged this traffic as phishing.Avast and AVG are by the same company, and share the same technology, which is why both Avast and AVG users are affected. This is not an officially run community but Avast are nice enough to drop by of their own volition. You may need to update Avast manually - instructions for doing that here I recommend doing the "Manually update the Program" which will ensure both your virus definitions and AV programs are up-to-date. To quote an old phrase, "Hello world!" - this is more traffic than this subreddit is used to getting in a month :PĪccording to the official Avast forum this should already be resolved. My Avast shows the last virus defs update as 22:54 UTC. This appears to be already resolved via update - I can't reproduce this issue on a newly installed Google Chrome as of 14 July 2018 22:58 UTC. TL DR: Update Avast, this should resolve the issue. ![]()
